Prof. Farid is an Endocrinologist with special interests in pituitary disease, thyroid disorders particularly thyroid cancer, diabetes, female infertility, including polycystic ovarian disease. His training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology was at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He started his research career there and went on to a 2 year Research Fellowship in Toronto, Canada. He was appointed Assistant Professor at the Memorial University of Newfoundland and Consultant Physician at the teaching hospital in 1974, and rose up the academic ladder to the rank of full Professor of Medicine and Endocrinology in 1984. In 1981 he became Head of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Director of the Clinical Investigation Centre, and Consultant in Nuclear Medicine in 1982. He was Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto and Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute 1987 – 1988. In January 1991 he took up the positions of Professor and Chairman, Department of Medicine, Chief of Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Director of the Molecular Endocrinology Laboratory, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He returned to South Western Ontario in October 1995. He launched his own biotechnology company in Ontario in June 1996. He held a substantive appointment as Consultant Endocrinologist and General Physician West Herts NHS Trust from 1997 to 2002.He is now in full time private practice and carry out research through his biotechnology company, Osancor Biotech Inc. In April 1997 he became Professor of BioSciences at the University of Hertfordshire. In 2002, he was appointed as an external expert medical assessor to the Advertising Standards Authority. Over the years, he has trained many successful endocrinologists, internists and scientists, and garnered over $7 million in research grants and contracts to support his research. He has published in excess of 469 articles, reviews and chapters. He has described or re-defined a number of endocrine syndromes. His current research interests include the molecular pathogenesis of thyroid tumors, common autoimmune thyroid disorders, the function and evolution of the TSH receptor and more recently gene therapy of advanced thyroid cancer. Over the last several years he has become involved in the diagnosis and treatment of insulin resistance. He is a founding member of an International European Consortium dedicated to defining the neuro-endocrine pathways resulting in normal human sexual development, and a member of WHO expert panel on thyroid cancer. He was short-listed for the King Faisal International Prize in Medicine & Physiology in 1993 and awarded the Kenezy Medal of the Hungarian Ministry of Health in 1998. Dalene graduated from the University of Stellenbosch, near Cape Town in South Africa. After Graduation she worked in the widespread region of the Northern Cape to improve the nutritional status of women, children and people affected by tuberculosis and HIV/Aids through nutritional education, workshops and campaigns. While working in a private practice that specialised in Diabetes, Insulin Resistance and bowel problems, she discovered the unbelievable results from a well-planned low Glycemic Index, low Glycemic Load diet, especially on Insulin Resistant individuals, who have been on every diet available but never seen any results. She has since seen over a thousand patients for various medical problems, and has a passion for teaching people how to manage their nutritional conditions independently, reach their ideal weight and gain their health and their life back. She has been on national radio, researched the nutritional status of rhythmic gymnasts and written articles in newsletters. |

Lana Pinshaw is a South African qualified dietician. She graduated in 1998 from the University of Pretoria and soon left South Africa to further her career in London. She worked for the private hospital group HCA for 6 years after which she had her first child and became a freelance dietician working in both the NHS and private fields, starting her own practise. For the past 5 years, she has acted as a consultant for a Cancer Organisation in NW London. The low GI principles have ensured that throughout all aspects of her workload, patient satisfaction and improved health are achieved. |
Cheryl Walters BSc MA, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist |

Cheryl Walters trained in individual psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy (MA) at wpf Kensington and undertook psychosexual and marital training (Bsc) at U.M.D.S. (Guy’s and St. Thomas’s). She has worked in private practice since 1994. She has previously worked for two national charities: as Counseling Coordinator for the National Stepfamily Association and Head of Policy and Research for Parentline Plus. As a leading professional in the field of parenting, she has co-written a book for stepparents and has contributed to many radio and television interviews. Cheryl believes that for many people the interface between mind and body can be key to gaining understanding, attaining self-awareness, challenging behaviours and moving towards self-confidence. She therefore wholeheartedly supports Professor Farid in the holistic approach of The London Endocrine Clinic. |
