Feedback - The Low G.I. Eating Regime:

Together with Professor Farid's care and our 'Low G.I. eating regime', we have been seeing a great many success stories. Here are some reports from just a few of the thrilled patients who have reached goal weight, and are now on maintenance, experiencing optimal health for the first time in many years.

Caroline Jacobs before and after low G.I. regime

“ When I was first diagnosed by Professor Farid with insulin resistance, I cried. At last someone knew what was wrong with me. Within one week of starting the G.I. diet, I started to feel better. I didn’t feel so bloated when I ate. I made sure I ate the correct foods regularly as I had been advised to do, so that I didn’t get that tired spaced-out feeling. As the weight started to come off, I became more motivated. I thought I might get bored with the G.I. way of eating as with other diets, but this has not happened as I tried Elana’s recipes, plus a few options of my own. As my body started to change so did my attitude. My confidence grew; I was able to look at myself in the mirror and not want to cry. People started to notice, which boosted my ego even more. I started keep fit classes and found I was able to keep up. Clothes started to get too big. Eating out wasn’t difficult either. I just stuck to the principles of the eating plan and always found there was a healthy low G.I., low fat option for me to go for. One year later and over 3 stone lighter, I am now a different person. I have gone from a size 16/18 to a size 10, a couple of times even an 8! Everyone compliments me. My husband thinks he has a new woman. Finding the G.I. diet and sticking to it has brought out the real person that was trapped inside me. It is now part of my life, and I hope I can help make it part of a lot of other peoples’ lives, and make them as happy as I am.”

" I am thrilled with the results of the low G.I. eating regimen. I have managed successfully to reach a size 10 from a 14 or a more realistic size 16, which I have been for the last 8 years. Even though I had been exercising regularly, up to 5 times weekly, as well as eating what I thought to be a sensible eating plan, the weight just would never budge. The weight loss, however, is a great bonus in addition to feeling so much better. My energy levels are completely changed. I used to have to just lie down at various times during the day from complete physical exhaustion. Since starting the eating plan, all my low energy slumps have disappeared and I know that if I am tired it is rather from a lack of sleep, which it is a very different feeling and much within my control. My skin has also improved remarkably. It was great to hear a work colleague remark, "Wow, you aren't spotty anymore."

With all the benefits of the eating plan, an added bonus is that I have not felt deprived. It is very adaptable and it is always possible to find good enjoyable food that fits into the plan. I still have the convenience of being able to buy the correct meals during the day while at work and don't have to prepare many meals. It is a way of eating that I know I will be able to stick to as a lifestyle, while it empowers me to maintain the weight loss and remain healthy." -

"I never thought I could possibly be a size 10, least of all in my 30's (I never was in my 20's).The G.I. diet has made a huge impact on my life. When I started the program I was a size 16-18, and a 'snackerholic'! I would often feel very lethargic at work during the afternoons, and fall asleep almost every evening on the settee in front of the TV around 6 pm. Besides this lack of energy, I was also very moody. These days I am full of energy, my skin has improved, my periods are regular (for the first time since my teens), and I can wear all sorts of clothes. I've even had my belly button pierced! I enjoy what I eat and I feel so much better for it. If I do have an off few days, I really notice a difference in my energy levels. I tend to get lethargic about an hour after a high G.I. snack. I'd recommend the G.I. diet to EVERYONE!" -

"I first met Elana in September 2003, having been referred to her by Professor Farid, after he diagnosed polycystic ovarian disease. He felt that she would be able to help me lose weight, by following a low Glycaemic Index diet. Since my teens my weight has always fluctuated. I have tried every diet available, although some of them have been successful; I have never been able to sustain the weight loss, especially now I'm in my early forties. The Low G.I. diet is completely different, and I realise now how unhealthy my eating habits had been before going to see Elana. The diet is very straightforward and easy to follow. For me the major change was to replace bread and potatoes with lower G.I. foods such as pulses and cous-cous, and to increase my fruit and vegetable intake, whilst controlling my intake of other carbohydrates and fats. The results have been amazing. I'm sleeping better, don't get those dips of energy during the day, which often let me feel tired and lethargic. In addition I am far less prone to the mood swings associated with low blood sugar. On top of all this, I reached my target weight very quickly, losing just over a stone and a half and dropping two sizes. My whole approach to food has now changed and I will continue to follow the low G.I. eating plan. Of course, I wouldn't have been able to achieve all this without Elana's continued help and support, for which I am grateful. I am now a happy, healthy size 8/10, full of renewed confidence and energy. I feel fantastic!" -
